An MBA graduate from Texas A&N, financial professional Harvey Bell has nearly four decades of experience. When the New Jersey resident is not consulting with clients, Harvey Bell enjoys rooting for the New York Knicks basketball team.
The Knicks began in 1946 as part of the American Basketball Association, which became the National Basketball Association three years later. Their name derives from pants rolled at the knee, which were fashionable among descendants of the city’s original colonists. The Knicks competed for the league finals from 1951 to 1953, coming up short each time. Faring poorly for the next 10 years, their fortunes improved with the arrival of star center Willis Reed. They won their first championship in 1970, propelled by Reed and other NBA Hall of Famers Bill Bradley, Walt Frazier, and Bill DeBusschere. After going into overtime twice in the championship series, the Knicks overcame the Los Angeles Lakers in the seventh game, highlighted by a dramatic appearance by an injured Reed. Led by first-round draft pick Patrick Ewing from 1985 to 2000, the Knicks had more than 10 winning seasons and were runners-up in two league championship series. They maintained a strong rivalry with the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan. Since 2000, the team has compiled a less-than-stellar record, brightened somewhat by the addition of Amer’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony. Although the Knicks took their division title in 2013, they fell back into sub-par performance. In 2018, they finished with a 29-53 record.
